The NIH Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) is the principal NIH Office responsible for NIH IT strategy, policy, and oversight to support NIH's mission as the Nation's steward of medical and behavioral research.

About OCIO

OCIO provides advice to the NIH Director and Institute, Center, and Office leadership on the strategic direction of IT management and cybersecurity.

OCIO is responsible for NIH's compliance with Federal legal and regulatory mandates, including the Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA) and the Federal Information Technology Acquisition Reform Act (FITARA).

Beginning February 21st, the Smart Card content previously hosted on the OCIO website has migrated to the CIT Knowledge Base. Any references to the old HHS ID Badge Smart Card website should be reported to IAM PMO.

ISSOs should direct teams to review PIV / ALT Card related documentation to identify potential outdated links and update them accordingly.

For any questions, comments or feedback regarding the Smart Card website decommission, please contact the NIH OCIO Communications Team.
