How to Use this Website

This website has been developed to ensure that the NIH community is prepared to successfully use their PIV card (HHS ID Badge) and PIN to access their computers, the NIH network and available special administrative applications as NIH transitions to two-factor authentication. 

For ease of use, the website is divided into major sections that describe how to use your smart card for common login and e-mail procedures as well as how to manage your smart card.

Note: the NIH Division of Personnel Security and Access Control (DPSAC) is responsible for issuing and maintaining the HHS ID badge (aka PIV card).

IT professionals and those seeking information on smart card topics not covered in these sections can refer to Technical Resources. This site retains much of the content from the original OCIO Smart Card website and features a number of Smart Card 'How To' and 'Troubleshooting' guides as well as links to the NIH IT Knowledge Base to help readers quickly find solutions to their smart-card related issues.
